National Dance Company Wales is to host legendary Berlin dance platform, LUCKY TRIMMER, at the Dance House, Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff this July. It will be a special LUCKY TRIMMER DOES WALES! edition of the long-standing event and is the first time that the short format dance festival has been to the UK.
Since its inception in 2004, LUCKY TRIMMER has distinguished itself among the Berlin art scene with its unique concept and philosophy. Each edition of the event features a series of 7-8 dance pieces of less than 10 minutes each. As an advocate of the short format, LUCKY TRIMMER serves as an innovation radar, presenting new artistic trends and an exciting insight into the many facets of the contemporary dance landscape.
LUCKY TRIMMER DOES WALES! promises to deliver a diverse and challenging programme of performance at the Dance House. NDCWales’ Artistic Director, Caroline Finn, will be performing her own solo piece, Bernadette, alongside a special selection of international bite-sized treats.
The seven pieces being performed will include a solo re-incarnation of a Strauss waltz, a throwback to Twin Peaks, a very lively foot, an atypical walk through the streets of Berlin, nostalgic memories and some indispensable household tips.
NDCWales’ Artistic Director, Caroline Finn, performed as part of the event in Berlin when working in Germany as a dancer. “NDCWales is incredibly excited to be hosting the renowned, Berlin-born LUCKY TRIMMER festival here at the Dance House for the ‘LUCKY TRIMMER DOES WALES!’ extravaganza. I’ve been a huge fan of LUCKY TRIMMER since first performing my solo work, Bernadette with them in 2010. The variety of performers and works that this festival attracts is like none other I know and audiences always seem to leave feeling invigorated, enriched, surprised and wanting more! In the years that the festival has been running, it has gone from strength to strength and I am honoured that we can bring the best of LUCKY TRIMMER to Cardiff; showcasing such an array of exciting international artists here at our home.”
Invited artists: B.DANCE Company (Taiwan), Caroline Finn (United Kingdom), Dagmar Dachauer (Austria/Belgium), Francesca Foscarini (Italy), Samuel Lefeuvre (France/Belgium), Lucia Marote (Costa Rica/Spain), Yukihiro Taguchi (Japan/Germany)
