The Bard’s celebrations get under way and the highly acclaimed Fluellen Theatre Company opens its Shakespeare 400 series commemorating the 400th anniversary of his death with one of the Bard’s earliest and greatest plays. Richard III is in the Depot Studio of Swansea Grand Theatre.
Shakespeare’s Richard III is a brilliant portrait of the rise and fall of a merciless fanatic, the original man you love to hate. The Wars of the Roses is over and the country is enjoying peace after a bloody civil war, but not Richard Duke of Gloucester. He wants the throne and there are several people considerably closer to it by lineage. The Duke usually gets what he wants and plots a murderous course to successfully seize the crown.
