Frozen Light’s epic show 2065 is currently playing venues across Wales as part of a UK tour.
2065 is a story of rebellion set in the not-so-distant future created for audiences with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD). With a dystopian, science fiction feel, 2065 is a defiant, joyous and celebratory production with an original soundtrack.
Frozen Light is renowned for creating engaging and high-quality theatre for audiences with PMLD through combining multi-sensory moments, live music, singing and poetic language.
Set in the year 2065, the people of the city are being stifled under an oppressive regime made up of all-powerful corporations who have even banned music. A group of rebels who live outside the system believe things can change for the better and have a mission to remind people of a time when it was possible to thrive and bring music back to the city.
In the making of this multi-sensory theatre production, Frozen Light explored the sensory environment of the show before developing the story and characters. Interested in experimenting with low-fi props for high fi impact. Technological and industrial multi-sensory props made from diverse materials were developed to tell the story and experienced up close in a one-to-one with performer and audience.
The soundscape has many textures; bass beats and vibrations that the audience can feel as well as hear, combined with synth sounds and, for the first time, a live brass duo.
The results of Frozen Light’s techniques in tailoring and curation mean that audiences, including families and carers, feel included in the work and all their senses are activated.
Amber Onat Gregory, Artistic Director said: “Being on the road with ‘2065’ feels like an incredible privilege. Even though the story was written before the pandemic, the desire for community and celebration feels more poignant at this time. We began the development process before the pandemic and the show was finished during the pandemic – so to be on the road with the show now feels impossibly wonderful. Audiences have been thrilled to return to the theatre, and for many of our audiences with profound and multiple learning disabilities, it has been the first time they’ve returned to live events since the start of the pandemic. It’s also been very exciting for the company and the venues we’ve toured to, finally returning to theatres at what is an incredibly hard time for the whole industry.”
Lucy Garland, Artistic Director said: “Although set in a dystopian world, 2065 is ultimately a story of the power of people to change the world for the better. It holds a lot of joy and celebratory moments and this felt important to share during the pandemic. It is the ultimate privilege to be able to join our audiences on stage and share the magic of theatre with them once more.”
Age Guidance: The show has been designed for audiences aged 13+, although it does not contain inappropriate material for younger audiences.
