One of the most successful British plays of recent years is heading back to Cardiff, as 2:22 A Ghost Story arrives at the New Theatre from Monday 16 to Saturday 21 February 2026.
Written by Danny Robins, best known as the creator of the BBC podcasts Uncanny and The Battersea Poltergeist, the play has had an extraordinary life since it premiered in 2021. It has clocked up seven seasons in the West End, toured the UK and Ireland to record-breaking audiences and been produced in more than a dozen countries worldwide. Along the way, it picked up the WhatsOnStage Award for Best New Play.
Part of the show’s appeal has been its high-profile casting. Previous productions have featured performers including Lily Allen, Cheryl, Stacey Dooley, Tom Felton, Jake Wood and James Buckley. Casting for the Cardiff dates has yet to be announced, but the play’s strong central roles have consistently attracted well-known names.
At the heart of 2:22 A Ghost Story is a simple question: do you believe in ghosts? Jenny is convinced her new house is haunted, insisting she hears something every night at exactly 2:22am. Her husband Sam remains firmly unconvinced. When friends Lauren and Ben come over for dinner, the conversation turns into a debate about the supernatural, belief and proof. The group decides to stay awake until 2:22am to find out what’s really going on.
The play mixes humour with suspense and has become known for provoking plenty of post-show discussion, particularly around its ending. It’s this balance of sharp writing, contemporary themes and audience engagement that has helped 2:22 A Ghost Story become such a theatrical talking point.
2:22 A Ghost Story runs at the New Theatre, Cardiff, from 16–21 February 2026. Tickets are available from the theatre box office and website.
