Directed by Richard Tunley, Black RAT will perform a topically updated, energy-packed version of John Godber’s well-loved classic, Bouncers.
Hailed as ‘an excellent production’ by its playwright John Godber when first performed by the company in 2010, it will tour 16 venues all across Wales from Tuesday October 4 until Monday November 7, opening with three nights at Blackwood Miners Institute from 4-6 October and finishing in Theatr Colwyn, Colwyn Bay.
The story of Bouncers follows the fortunes of Les, Judd, Ralph and Lucky Eric, the bouncers at a local night club, as they prepare for the onslaught of a Friday night’s debauchery. Lads are on the pull, girls are on the razzle and the beer is flowing free. What follows is a theatrical feast as the four bouncers play ALL the characters with hysterical consequences.
John Godber said about Bouncers in his Introduction in the Methuen Drama book, John Godber Plays “I wanted to make a piece of theatre that couldn’t be ignored. A piece of theatre that was robust, and vigorous, shocking and humorous. I wanted to create a piece of theatre that spoke to a generation of clubbers rather than theatregoers, and spoke to them in a language, which they understood. The pace had to be fast, it had to be slick, and it had to be funny. It had to be worth going to see!”
About Black RAT’s forthcoming autumn tour John Godber said “I’m delighted Black RAT is touring Bouncers once again. I know Welsh audiences will appreciate the honesty and directness of the production. Bouncers is as relevant today as it was when I first wrote it. I’m sure Black RAT’s audience will make it a night to remember!”
A talented cast of some of Wales’ finest comedy actors make up the Bouncers cast. The company are delighted to welcome back Black RAT favourites Gareth John Bale and Sam Davies who both performed in the original acclaimed production of Bouncers by the company in 2010. They will be joined by Ross Ford and Morgan Hopkins as Lucky Eric.
Black RAT Productions have become well-known for their fast paced action-packed autumn tours that have delighted audiences over recent years.
