Wales’ Hijinx has been shortlisted for an Edinburgh Festival award.
The Total Theatre Awards involve 461 eligible shows being assessed over the first 11 days of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
The Flop, in association with Spymonkey has been shortlisted in the Innovation, Experimentation & Playing with Form category and is the only production from Wales of reach any of the shortlists.
Hijinx said, “We are utterly thrilled to be shortlisted to one of five shows for Innovation, Experimentation and playing with Form for our production which has been devised by the company with an inclusive cast. We are very proud to be recognised for our working practice within the industry by this prestigious award alongside so many other wonderful artists.”
The company’s innovative work has previously been recognised by the Wales Theatre Awards, winning in 2018 for Meet Fred, and this new work was universally praised by reviewers in Cardiff earlier this year including Arts Scene in Wales and also in Edinburgh when seen by Theatre in Wales and Wales Arts Review reviewers.
Hijinx make fearless, provocative, contemporary theatre performed by professional actors -some of whom happen to have a learning disability.
Hijinx uses theatre to tackle the complex social problem of integrating learning disability into the workplace and into society.
