Taking Flight Theatre tour with a unique take on Shakespeare’s The Tempest.

May 24, 2017 by

The Tempest is being given the Taking Flight  treatment – lots of live original music by Dan Lawrence with plenty of humour and physical comedy.

The audience will be an integral part of the experience, and British Sign Language and Audio Description integrated into the classic text.

In a play which blurs the lines between illusion and reality they invite the audience to embark on an exciting journey by boarding their luxury ocean liner, The Remembrance, to visit Island Studios where the magic of the silver screen is brought to life. Let their crew take care of your every worry, your every woe on their 10 year anniversary cruise to the Island that Time Forgot.

Artistic Director, Elise Davison: “Our Tempest is set in a film studio, offering the chance to see first- hand this homage to early cinema. Most exciting is our brand new ‘foley table’ which has been developed at the Island Studios where Prospero is director. His world of theatrical illusion is opened up to you, the public, for the Amazing 10th Anniversary Deluxe Guided Tour. Today though, the tour isn’t running exactly to plan. Prospero’s usurping sister is now the new director of the mainland’s rival Brave New World Studios, heavily subsidised by Napoleon producer Alonso.  So today is, in fact, the day Prospero has been preparing for. You, the lucky tour participants, will watch as Prospero’s plans unfold. Today the people who took away his beloved film studios years before will attempt to cross the sea together – and  today he will raise The Tempest.

“Every year as we fight the wind and the rain people say “You should do The Tempest” so this year we gave in. 2016 was our rainiest season to date so we are hoping that by tackling this storm of a play, the weather gods will look favourably on us and bring a summer of sunshine. But if the rain cometh, on the show will go at some of the country’s most beautiful historic sites, reminding us of the power and unpredictability of nature and all that has gone before.”
