Les Ballets Trockadero or ‘The Trocks’ is one of the most entertaining, skilful and enjoyable nights at the theatre I have had in a long time. The company was formed in the 1970s, and travels around the world performing their ‘spoof’ ballet.
‘Trocks’ consists of 18 incredibly talented male dancers, who pretend to be 18 catty, competitive and over the top female ballerinas – who try to sabotage each other over this 2 hour performance. They dance nine famous ballet scenes over three acts, which result in nonstop rip-snorting laughter.
The skill that is needed by the dancers, not just physically to look and dance like female ballerinas, but also comically to pull off their subtle looks and brilliant comic timing that will just leave you in stiches.
The Lecoq style of circus movement comedy, mixed with the cleverness of the choreography really creates the perfect ballet – for a long-time ballet fan or even a first timer.
Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo is travelling around the UK to November, with shows left in Canterbury, Nottingham, Inverness, Edinburgh and Belfast.
Really a must see for all ages.
